In the book I say that Lisa was the only person who knew my motives in staying on surface-friendly terms with Gerardo Mora. This wasn't strictly true. I had run into Max Dalton's son, Rick, on a puddle jumper (flight) in 2004 (I don't remember the month) and had talked to him about Mora; I hadn't seen him since my investigation in 1998.

For the purposes of my book — verifying that everything of any importance is true as I wrote it — I asked Rick via email if he recalled our conversation. Here's his response:

      I remember the conversation with you on the Sansa flight.  In fact, I
      actually have contemporaneous notes on the conversation.  You told me that
      you were "friendly" with Mora in order to (1) get information and (2)
      survive.  You also referenced that he was going through (or had recently
      gone through) a nasty divorce.  You also mentioned that Derek Logan had
      given you a copy of some of my Dad's legal documents to be delivered to
      Mora.  I was bit aware that you had listed property of his on your site.

My point in reproducing Rick's email here is to show the truthfulness of my claimed motives in staying close to Mora. That Logan was sucking up to the murderer Mora is an added bonus here; this is mentioned in the Dalton section of the book.

This sort of third party verification is better than contemporaneous notes: I had no motive back then to concoct lies to Rick.
