Cosmic Banditos Movie Deal
Since as of this writing I’m still on good terms with the nice folks at New Crime (John Cusack’s company), I suspect they will verify this through-line. I’ll add their comments if/when they get back to me after reading the book.
I have paperwork (like my contract) and emails and such that I can dig out, which I will if necessary, but not now: the deadline.
Oh. I actually met Amy Nickin once, in (the state of mind) Hollywood. She had something for me to sign, I forget what, a deal memo maybe; this was back in the summer of 2004 during my brink-hovering trip. At that time I’d already put the Banditos deal story on my website as part of my newsletter – the same facts as put forth in the book. (I’ll eventually dig that up and provide a link.) Amy’s only comment about my public whistle-blowing was this: “I noticed that my name is all over the internet.” She didn’t correct me on anything — including the reason for (the now long-defunct) The Shooting Gallery’s delay in paying me my 15k.
Also: My observation that Amy is “duplicitous,” etc., comes from Steven, not me; I merely relayed his words. My reference to her as “a lying slug” certainly may be viewed as a colloquial rephrasing of Steven’s comment.
And anyway, branding a Hollywood lawyer as “duplicitous” is more likely to result in job offers than any sort of damages, so what could Amy actually sue me for?
