Lisa told Esteban Mora about the Dalton Investigation section of this book, and gave him the hard copy
That Lisa was fucking Esteban Mora, told him about the Dalton Investigation section of this book, and gave him the hard copy is verified in several ways, aside from the inevitable logic of it… Remember that for our purposes here, we will ignore my “testimony” (in the book or here) – we’re looking for second party and verifiable proofs, stuff that would be admissible in court. Along these lines, it’s common judicial practice to accept a journalist’s contemporaneous notes on events as evidence. I have better than that – notes are easily faked, i.e., written after the fact to back up concocted lies. Because of my worries about being killed, I made a practice to send to friends my summation of the events as I was living them. My reproduced (dated) email regarding Lisa and Kim fucking at the Balmoral is a previous example. Here, for the record, I’m going to reproduce emails from the time frame of the incident wherein I confronted Lisa at Casa Tigre about Esteban Mora. As you’ll see if you plow through this stuff, it backs up virtually all I say in the book, including my armed visit to Esteban’s ranchos and the kid on the bike who verified that Lisa had often visited Esteban. I’ll highlight in red peripheral stuff I think important. Where I interject clarifying notes, I’ll put them in bold.
Note on the text formating: A clitch in the software I'm using causes formating errors — my paragraph breaks suddenly disappear. so bear with some long, run on passages. It's tiresome to keep correcting them.
(The most important proof of the veracity of the ending to my book is an email exchange with Fowlie. To go to it, skip down to the bottom of this page then scroll up a couple clicks.)

hi les/win/john,
got to make this short. i'm busy packing. yesterday lisa was working on the our house next door so i went and calmly asked who had come to my house in the 4 days she was there recently, before i came back (she lied to everyone and said i gave permission to stay). she said no one. i ask if she's sure. yes. i knew 2 guys, danny fowlie friends had been there. john and chris. i also knew she'd fucked john. so i name them and she pretends not to know who i mean. she knew well. this was an admission to lying. anyone else? i ask. no. okay. i say i saw esteban at the cantina. she looks away, says, how is esteban. Drunk and coked up and talking a lot of shit, I say. (i made this part up. he didnt say much when i saw him a week ago, before i knew all this.) she got edgy at this and i asked her if she was sure esteban wasnt at my house. yes, sure. i ask when was the last time you saw him? when he gave me a ride that time, she says. i remember this well. it was a few months ago. (more on that sometime). then, before i can say anything, she trots away, saying, I'm not going to do this. Do what? she knew she'd fucked up — maybe esteban had told me different about when they last met. hence the panic. more stuff happens but.. i went home (100 yards) and started on the notes i pasted below. got more and more angry. she is still over at the house, i can see her car. i get in my car and drive the 5 miles to pilon to where esteban lives. i have my pistol on the seat. i dont know what i'm going to do, but i just need to do it. est is not home. very muddy and rural and spooky there, it's squatter haven. i'm leaving and a kid approaches on his bike. asks if i'm looking for est. yes. i ask if he's seen my car before. yes. la gringa comes in it to est's house. he doenst know her name but the description is lisa. i ask if she comes in another car. yes. the green one. my other car is green. so that's that. i go back to talk to lisa. calm. i tell her I was worried about what she been saying to people. i say i was not talking (before) about her having sex in my house (i'd never said anything like that, she brought up, denying it) She refuses to talk to me. I repeat I was not talking about sex before. she says she had no sex with people in my house. I say again i'm worried what she's been saying to people. especailly esteban. she could get me hurt or worse i say by saying shit to the moras. she says she will not talk to me. i calmly ask her what she told esteban. her answer was this: i didn't' have sex with esteban in your house.
Note: my worries about what Lisa told Esteban obviously refer to the Dalton section of my book, although I don’t spell that out, since John and co. already knew about that worry. I mean: What else could I be referring to? Plus, as you’ll see, my fear on this matter is backed up by an email I sent two days previously.
listen: she saw me go out and come back and she thought i'd already talked to esteban when he was "drunk and coked up and talking shit" so she was afraid to get caught in a lie if she said she didnt tell him anything. or else why not say she didn't tell him anything, right? and by saying she didn't have sex with him "in your house" as an answer to another question she was in effect saying she did have sex with him, but not in my house. otherwise why not jsut say she didnt have sex with him period. She was fucking him all right and told him shit.
Note: Again, what else could I be referring to except the Dalton investigation?
the way she acted and answered said both these things. so i'm outa here. problem is my good car is down, won't be ready for a week. i have my viet nam vet freind Al B coming i think. i worry because my caretaker is gone for the weekend and lisa is going away for the weekend, i hear. this would be when somthing happens — when she is gone from here. i have plenty of guns.
My worries about violence from the Moras is obviously based on Lisa having stolen my book and given them the Dalton section. That Lisa going away for the weekend was a worry is in the book: she was supposedly going on a surf trip with Kim and Kim’s son.
i may go to tobago. first up the coast to confront this guy i think she was fucking in san jose. my lawyer also: she can sign our common land to herself. i must stop that shit. thanks you guys for your support. sorry for how scattered this is. i'm just in a hurry. i'm pasting my notes from yesterday here. they won't make too much sense plus i have written stuff i did also, more detailed. just please file this email.
October 13. Note: Since the following is so long and redundant, I’ll highlight In red the stuff that backs up the book.
At cantina with freddy. Barry comes up. Hi barry. Cant look at me. Hi buddy and I grab hi shand. The miiror sindfown. I THOUGHT IT WAS EST (Esteban) You might remember the above from the book: when I thought it was Esteban’s car at the cantina and it turned out to be Barry’s. (“I thought it was a shitball motherfucker who’d fucked my girlfriend and who now wanted to kill me… but it was only a shitball motherfucker who fucked my girlfriend.”) If you’re paying attention you’ll notice I futzed with chronology a bit with this scene, i.e., I lied about when exactly it occurred. I needed the symmetry. lisa at casa tigre. I ask who been at my house. No one. No one? No one? Sure? Sure. John and chris? Who? Like didn’t know who I meant. Right. Then, oh that’s right. Why they come? Actually stutters. I wait. Comes up with they were looking for me. Really? I wasn’t here and danny knew that. They weren[t looking for me. Lied. Word already was theat she’d fucked john. Married guy. STOP TO TALK TO LISA after barry. I got be calm and cool – otherwise she will not admit anything Saw esteban. Hows est AND SHE TURNS AWAY? drunk and talking a streak. He wasn’t at my house? No. when last time you saw him? That time he gave me a ride. Then she runs saying I’m not going to do this – she knew she’d fucked up. I say I don’t blame you. She turns and looks at me. Guilt. Runs. Get along with john? No. all over town – perception management – who? She wants to know and there is fear in her eyes. Write this, notes. Got pissed and more pissed Went looking for est with gun in car. Not home. To a neighbor kid on a bike – you know this car? Yes. La gringa. Other car? Verde. That’s that/ Returned and Had i'm calm with lisa – I said I was worried about what she been saying to people, say. She refuses to talk to me. Isay I was not talking about sex before. she says NO sex with people IN YOUR HOUSE. I say
Plus lisa wants to start a biz here – fred says real estate or building and selling – she knows I could would stop that too.
In the above as I ramble (which I often do in notes) I’m referring to another motive for Lisa wanting me… gone.
the perception management problem and her eyes fearful. Just ask around town I said. I said I was worried about what she’d tell the moras and said she wouldn’t talk about it (I’d said est was drunk so she had to be careful with denying; if she hadn’t TOLD HIM ANYTHING WHATS THE PROBLEM?), or anything and would not look at me (I’m calm) I press about this and SHE answered that queston with “I DIDN’T HAVE SEX WITH ESTEBAN IN YOUR HOUSE” She turns, fear, and leaves. and that was that. Period. She was fucking him all right and told him shit. Why she was so nervosu? Also she’d seen me go out and come back. just enough time finde out stuff in pilon or whatever/ I thought her fascination with the moras was just… morbid… more than that. One socio to another. Plus I told her brother you aint seen nothing yet.
The following email from John is not dated but is attached to the above, so it was written previously, almost certainly the same day.

I highlight the above from John’s email because it clearly refer to the CDs Lisa took from the locked trunk. I in fact emailed John (plus Lesley and Win) and told them everything, including Lisa’s theft of the backup CDs to my book a couple days before, on October 13. In an attachment to that email I tell them about… everything, including the CD theft. You can Click here to go to it, but I warn you, it’s long and very redundant – again, I was detailing everything to my friends in case of my demise.
The only important piece of information on it that you don’t already have is my revelation about the CD theft, which in any case is verified by John’s email above, i.e., the reference to the “missing CDs” – I’d already written about it. Again, the value of this is that it amounts to “contemporaneous notes.” A note on chronology: It appears that I got the date of my confrontation with Lisa at Casa Tigre wrong: according to the above email that occurred on October 13, not October 12, as I wrote in the book. Although I take copious notes, one of my weaknesses (aside from my penmanship) is that I often omit exact dates – dumb, but there you have it. In fact, I sometimes get years wrong, notwithstanding the great detail I generally go into. I suspect that I got some other dates slightly wrong in the book – I’ll be fact checking before the general release and will correct these errors. Okay. Here’s an admission to a lie I told, a nonfiction deceit: My realization that Lisa took the Dalton hard copy as well as the CDs came at the last minute, just before I bolted for San Jose and out of the country, not the morning of the day I confronted Lisa at Casa Tigre. In the writing of the book I sweated over whether this deceit was “okay.” As written in the book, I didn’t immediately realize that my life was probably in danger based on Lisa’s theft of this book-in-progress; that rush of insight occurred as I describe, days later. My still later realization of the theft of the Dalton hard copy was merely the icing on the cake. This is why in the above emails I repeat several times that Lisa “told” Esteban “shit” – rather than saying she “gave” him “shit.” Again, the “shit” refers to the Dalton expose, which would ruin the Moras land selling business. This stuff is detailed in the above email attachment dated October 13. So we know I was thinking about this when I confronted Lisa at Casa Tigre and the scenes that followed. The reason I perpetrated this deceit was for narrative rhythm: I wanted one rush of insight so I could get on with the story; I wanted you to have no doubt that I was in serious straits, which I of course was. I trust you’ll agree that this did not deceive you about “how the world works.” In any case, my rush of insight about Lisa’s agenda with Esteban occurred as I describe, even before I realized she had taken the hard copy.
Pressing on.
The most important turning point in my book is based on the revelation that Lisa had been fucking the sociopath and colluder in murder, Esteban Mora – all else at the end of the story followed from that, including my abandonment of my home. It therefore follows that the most important person in my book (regarding turning points) is Fowlie’s friend Jean. (I’ll not use her last name.) For several months I’ve tried to get Jean to verify in writing that my scene with her in (Part Seven, Chapter Seven), and the information she revealed is true as described.
I emailed her a detailed questionnaire last spring, and then in July emailed her the chapters she appears in, asking her to verify their veracity. Although Jean has verified verbally (on the phone) that all I describe is true and accurate, she has been reticent in putting this in writing, saying she would do it then giving me excuses for not having done so – like saying she hasn’t checked email for a month.
Although this is a disappointment – if she doesn’t want to put stuff in writing just say so — I sympathize with Jean. She’s currently back at Pavones and is no doubt worried about her situation there. At first I thought this concern was related to fear of the Moras, but based on a phone conversation with her from August 27, I now suspect her worry is over Fowlie: Jean is under Fowlie’s thumb due to her thinking she needs his help to win a land-related court case against the Moras. Fowlie now considers me his deadly enemy and wishes to discredit me any way he can; he no doubt heavily regrets spilling the Lisa-Esteban beans and has told Jean not no help me further. (One reason Fowlie fears me is the documents I possess that give the lie to his claims of legal land ownership of his former empire. Much more on this to come.)
Fowlie’s friendship/possible business relationship with Lisa exponential-izes his motive to discredit me and my book. Well, I have news for Fowlie: Bullying Jean into repudiating my descriptions of her revelations won’t work.
An update, and I’ve decided to leave the above as is, so you know the sorts of things I’m going through in verifying events: I write on Tuesday, September 5th, and this morning Jean called from Costa Rica, apologizing for not having gotten back to me regarding the chapters I sent her, the chapters she appears in. Jean said she loved the stuff and that “the scenes I describe with (her) were exactly accurate.” Jean said she’d email me that effect in a day or so, when she has internet access.
Okay. Good. One less thing. Jean said that when she saw Lisa at Pavones last month, Lisa “literally ran away” from her. I theorized that Lisa must have found out how word about her and Esteban had gotten out. “Probably right,” Jean said. “Why else would she do that (run away)?”
Update on above: I now write from October 8, and Jean still has not emailed me with the verification she promised. She has not answered my emails and her cell phone in Costa Rica is disconnected. Although I worry a bit that something has happened to her, I suspect that by now Fowlie has read my book and bullied her about helping me. A disappointment but not catastrophic: The below email exchange with Fowlie wherein he does not correct my summation of the ending of my book is enough proof of my veracity.
People (like Lisa and Fowlie) will undoubted band together and lie to discredit me, but it won't work.
Finally: In the following Fowlie email I’ve highlighted the relevant passages:

Dear Allan, Thanks for the e-mail, I've got moles digging all the time for information in Pavones, and I get infomation weekly. I didn't know about Lisa until just several weeks before you got that info, but I do have a few spys down there, and I do have a lot more information. I'm enclosing an attachment in this e-mail; some photos, etc., that you may want to use in your book. As an investigative reporter, I'm trusting you won't reveal where you got any of this information. Please give me a call on my home phone: (858) XXX-XXXX or my cell: (858) XXX-XXXX. I'll tell you a few things I haven't told you in this message. If there's any other thing I can help you with, please don't hesitate to call. Stay well, Your friend Dan
I highlight the last sentence to show how grateful Fowlie was (as of November, 2005) for how I’d been putting my ass on the line for him. Okay, the following is the email I wrote that directly precedes the above and is in fact attached to the above. Since the email in its entirety is worth the read, I’ve not highlighted.

dan,
just to let you know i'm okay. Looks like you might have saved my life with your heads up that Lisa has been screwing Esteban Mora — i verified this via two other sources. turns out she told Esteban about the section of my new book that names his father, Gerardo, as the murderer of Max Dalton. this will ruin the mora's business of selling land to rich gringos — land he stole from you.
i may have gotten out of pavones just in time. So thanks for that. the only thing that bothers me is your attitude that i keep quiet about where i got the tip about Lisa and Esteban. (Which i have done.) Danny, it doesn't seem like such a big deal that one friend tells another that he's being betrayed by his girlfriend. think about this: i was your spy in pavones, which could have caused me big problems, even endangered my life. you yourself said how dangerous the place is.
i helped you not expecting anything in return; it just seemed the right thing to do, considering the treachery you've been subjected to. and i was the only one who came forward with money. the only one. it doesn't seem like such a big deal to clue me in on how dangerous my girlfriend really is. in fact, it's a bit of a disappointment you didn't tell me as soon as you found out about Esteban and Lisa. but okay. point being that since meeting you i felt a bond with you and have always just wanted to do the right thing. if you think about this, what i've done, etc, you know it's true. with me having to leave pavones, i hope we'll remain friends even though i can not longer be of service to you.
allan
if you hear of anything else i should know, please tell me.

The above double email is a vital piece of evidence, especially if Jean – due to Fowlie’s bullying – decides to repudiate what she told me. Knowing Jean I doubt this will happen, but it certainly is possible. (It would be just one more goddamn thing, no?)
The above email exchange verifies virtually all of the events that are the crux of the ending of my book, and, further, verifies that I trusted Fowlie with knowledge that potentially put my life at risk. (For Fowlie to now claim that I was exaggerating the level to which I was at risk will now not work, will it?)
Notice how Fowlie does not correct anything I say; he merely (lamely) excuses his behavior (not informing me of what he knew about Lisa and Esteban) by claiming he only knew about Lisa’s treachery for “several weeks” (it was three months). The most important verification contained in the above email exchange is that Fowlie himself revealed Lisa’s treachery with Esteban Mora. This is clear in that Fowlie, rather than correcting me, got defensive in why he didn’t tell me about Lisa and Esteban earlier. A de facto admission that all I say in my email is true.
Think about it: I’m in essence accusing Fowlie of betraying our friendship. If he had another excuse for not telling me about Lisa and Esteban, he surely would have used it – in a much later email (after Lisa’s lies and gaslighting and, presumably, Fowlie’s sexual fantasies) he says the Esteban Mora revelation is based on “unfounded rumors.” If this were the case, he would say that here, wouldn’t he? This would be a perfect excuse for not telling me. But in fact it was not “unfounded rumors” or any rumors. He got the information from a trusted friend (Jean) who had first hand knowledge of Lisa and Esteban’s fuckbuddy status since 2003. I speak of not only Esteban’s brother telling Jean, but Esteban himself, who (at the cantina) had pointed at Lisa and said “I’ve had that.”
Plus the various other confirmations detailed in the book. So with or without Jean, we have serious confirmation of Lisa’s treachery with Esteban. And, again, notice he ends with an offer to help me any way he can. This puts his later accusations that I’m a fraud in the proper perspective. Although I hope and pray that Jean sticks to the truth, if she backpedals, the above, in Fowlie’s own words, verifies my account.
I hope you see this.
Moving on.
